The EVMS Continuing Medical Education
Program is dedicated to the improvement of the health status of the community and recognition
as a center of clinical strength in medicine through postgraduate education of physicians.The CME Program operates according to established policies and procedures to develop
educational programming based upon emerging technology and outcomes research. It serves the
community by providing timely education with evidence-based data. The focus is the education
of physicians in the Hampton Roads area and adjoining states.
Conferences are held on campus and at local and regional meeting sites.
Activities include regional and national conferences, symposia, special skill workshops,
departmental conferences, grand rounds, and tele-conferences, as well as Internet offerings.
Weekly grand rounds are broadcast to local and rural sites to enhance the accessibility of
current medical information. Enduring materials, such as CDs and monographs, are also
offered.
The scope of services includes needs assessment, program development and management,
evaluation of activities, promotion, logistics, and audiovisual support. All programming
meets the criteria for AMA PRA category 1 credit and complies with the AMA Ethical Opinion on
Gifts to Physicians and the ACCME Essential Areas and Elements and Policies.
