physician one of the top for women in the country

NORFOLK, VA — EVMS Health Services physician Alfred Z. Abuhamad,
M.D., has been singled out by Women's Health Magazine as one of
the country's top physicians for women.
Dr. Abuhamad was one of four obstetrician/ gynecologists cited by the
magazine in the southern region of the United States. Dr. Abuhamad is
the Mason C. Andrews Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and chairman
of the department of obstetrics and gynecology. He also is director of
maternal-fetal medicine at EVMS. He is board-certified in obstetrics and
gynecology as well as maternal-fetal medicine.
Dean and Provost Gerald J. Pepe, Ph.D., called the recognition well-deserved.
"This acknowledgement is a testament to Dr. Abuhamad's hard work,
dedication and commitment to excellence," Dean Pepe says. "EVMS and the
Hampton Roads community are fortunate to have him here."
Women's Health is one of the fastest growing magazines in the
country. This year, the magazine earned the No. 1 spot on Adweek's "Top
10 under 50" Hot List, which recognizes advertising growth and editorial
excellence. The magazine now has a circulation exceeding one million
copies.
Women's Health teamed up with the research firm Castle Connolly
to survey physicians and medical leadership at leading hospitals to
identify exceptional doctors in four regions of the country.
Dr. Abuhamad received his M.D. degree at the American University of
Beirut. He continued his postgraduate training at the University of
Miami where he completed his residency training in obstetrics and
gynecology and his fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine. He also
pursued a second fellowship at Yale Medical School in ultrasound and
prenatal diagnosis. Dr. Abuhamad joined the faculty at EVMS in September
1992.
Dr. Abuhamad has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals and
has authored a textbook on fetal echocardiography.
Dr. Abuhamad is recognized internationally for his research in
ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis. His clinical interests include
ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis, multiple gestation, Doppler-flow
studies and fetal therapies. |
